Strawberry Milkshake Cupcakes

My first foray into a classic drink-turned-cupcake recipe comes from the new Hummingbird Bakery, Home Sweet Home Cookbook. I got it for an absolute bargain of £7.49 in Sainsbury’s if you’re interested. I think this cupcake is one they sold in one of their specials – might have been the carnival range? In any case, if you like the fake strawberry flavour this is the cupcake for you! Continue reading “Strawberry Milkshake Cupcakes”

Apple Crumble Cupcakes

As promised! Finally found spare time to do some baking, so decided to go for the cupcakes I’ve been wanting to try since I got the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book last year. I tried the original version of these cupcakes at the Hummingbird Bakery last year and they tasted unbelievably good, so I was keen to try and replicate if I could! Moose Cakes

My friend Kylie celebrated her birthday this past week, and she loves mooses (moose/meese?!) so I decided to make her some moose cupcakes. I got the idea from a book I got for my birthday, What’s New, Cupcake? which is brilliant for novelty cupcakes. The only downside is that it is VERY american – so a lot of the things they use, we can’t really buy over here for a good price and finding alternatives isn’t always easy. Cola Cupcakes

Another new recipe from the new Hummingbird Bakery cookbook – cola cupcakes! These cupcakes use a standard sponge base, but instead of vanilla extract, you add some cola syrup. There’s only been one recommended product for the cola syrup and that’s from SodaStream – but I found that you can order in smaller quantities (and lower prices) through Argos or Dunelm Mill. There’s a big variety of flavours to choose from, so the possibilities are endless with soft drink flavoured cupcakes. Continue reading “Cola Cupcakes”

Red Velvet Cupcakes

Red velvet cupcakes and chocolate buttercream = yum!

I decided to have a bit of a baking day today as I recently got a new baking book – The Great British Book of Baking and thought I would try out some of the recipes (more to come later..) but I hadn’t made red velvet cupcakes for a while and had a bit of a craving! Continue reading “Red Velvet Cupcakes”

Goodbye 2010..Hello 2011!

Happy New Year!

I celebrated the New Year with my wonderful friends… and some yummy cupcakes (what else?!). These are chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla buttercream icing. This might have been one of the first times that the chocolate cupcake base has turned out so good – really light and spongy, yum! Continue reading “Goodbye 2010..Hello 2011!”
