Cola Cupcakes

Another new recipe from the new Hummingbird Bakery cookbook – cola cupcakes! These cupcakes use a standard sponge base, but instead of vanilla extract, you add some cola syrup. There’s only been one recommended product for the cola syrup and that’s from SodaStream – but I found that you can order in smaller quantities (and lower prices) through Argos or Dunelm Mill. There’s a big variety of flavours to choose from, so the possibilities are endless with soft drink flavoured cupcakes. Continue reading “Cola Cupcakes”

Linslade School Summer Fayre

I spent most evenings of last week baking and decorating cupcakes in preparation for the Linslade Lower School summer fayre, which was held last Saturday afternoon. Thank goodness it was sunny – otherwise I don’t think the turn out would have been as good, and the cakes wouldn’t have sold out! I found that the little cupcake boxes were very popular, so definitely worth investing in more for future events. Continue reading “Linslade School Summer Fayre”

Piped Flowers Course

Recently, I went on a piped flowers cupcake decoration course and learnt how to decorate four different types of flowers using buttercream icing. The course was run by the same company who I did my 4 week Wilton course with – well worth a class if you’re interested in cake decorating. It was only a two hour course, but you do manage to pick up the techniques fairly easily. Continue reading “Piped Flowers Course”

Liverpool FC Cupcakes

A few weeks ago, I received my first order (very exciting!) for a dozen vanilla and rose cupcakes for a birthday. I was given the opportunity to decorate them however I wanted – as long as they were vanilla and rose flavoured. As Pauline, the lady who ordered the cakes, is a big Liverpool supporter, I decided to make some football/LFC themed cupcakes and alongside them, a couple of ‘girlier’ cupcakes. Doctor, Doctor..

My sister celebrated her first day of no longer being a teenager on Thursday – Happy Birthday Steph – best way to celebrate? With a cake of course! She had to carry this on a long car journey back to Uni, so I hope it made there it one piece and it tasted alright too. I’m hoping it’s quite obvious what the cake is representing.. doctor’s lab coat, stethoscope… you get the picture?! Continue reading “Doctor, Doctor..”

Royal Wedding Cupcakes

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the past weekend, you’ll know that the biggest wedding of the year happened on Friday and I was glued to the TV most of the morning watching it all unfold… wasn’t it a great wedding? The dress (and not just Kate’s, Pippa Middleton anyone?) , the hair, the tiara, the kiss(es)… it’s what fairytales are made of, right?! And we all got a day off work, so thank you Wills & Kate!
