Bake Off 2015 – Week Three: Bread

Bread is not my friend. I’ve never enjoyed making bread, it just never works out the way I intend it to, plus it takes far too long and I’m not a patient enough person to wait around for it. For Bake Off, I thought I’d give it a try anyway, so I went for the technical challenge – this week it was a simple french baguette. Or not so simple..

The recipe itself is straightforward, just bread flour, yeast, salt and water. I used Paul Hollywood’s recipe, which can be found here. My dough was a lot wetter than I thought it should be – although, I think this supposed to be the case from what I remember on the show last week!

Once I knocked back the dough and shaped it into a baguette-like shape, I found that it didn’t really keep its shape and it turned into almost a biscotti-like log instead. Regardless, it tasted alright! I completely forgot about the steam in the oven, so no crispy crust for me – trust me, I think it would’ve made a big difference (slightly less chewy I reckon).

So bread week wasn’t the best, but bring on Week Four, I’m all over desserts!
